Music is the study and exploration of sound and the expressive use of musical elements through singing and playing of instruments. Children use their voices to develop concepts about sound and musical awareness. They will participate in games, songs, and creative movement activities. Children will develop an awareness and appreciation of music from different cultures.
Besides the fun of singing, children’s development on emotion, physical, creativity, social, intellectual and aesthetic sensitivity can be enhanced. They will learn basic musicianship skills and gain an understanding of vocal health. Base on the “Primary Years Programme” (IB Syllabus), three strands of Perform, Create and Respond will be focused. In addition, drama, choreography and speech therapy will be crossed over with the singing programme on a regular basis.
Zoltán Kodály, a Hungarian music educator, said, “If you can speak, you can sing!”. Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joys and benefits of choral singing and the power of teamwork. Let’s enjoy making music together.
